Natural wealth in Formentera

Formentera is a fabulous natural paradise, with delightful, enchanting scenery and biological treasures. The Ses Salines Natural Park, one of the most important wetlands in the Mediterranean, stretches from the north of Formentera stretches as far south as Ibiza. The area of salt flats with ponds and islets, is one of the most spectacular and beautiful on the island. It is also home to numerous aquatic birds and is a stopover point for a multitude of migratory species. Formentera's natural heritage is also found away from the coast, with a large area of pine forests and scrub land. Its forests and fields are home to a great variety of fauna, such as rabbits, hedgehogs, reptiles, and birds of prey, among other species. The sea surrounding the island is a sparkling treasure. Posidonia, an aquatic plant native to the Mediterranean and a World Heritage Site, is one of Formentera’s most precious treasures. It grows in extensive underwater meadows that act as the lungs of marine ecosystems.
