Art gallery Hauser & Wirth Menorca

The Hauser & Wirth Menorca gallery is a spectacular contemporary art centre located on Illa del Rei, a tiny island sheltered by the Port of Maó (Minorca), one of the largest natural harbours in Europe. This small island housed a naval hospital in the 18th century, and this has now been carefully reconditioned by Argentine architect Luis Laplace, who regularly works with the Wirths, to house this ambitious art project.   

Visitors must take a short boat trip from the Port of Maó to reach this extraordinary exhibition space. Once there, they can visit its eight galleries and an open-air sculpture trail, featuring works by Louise Bourgeois, Eduardo Chillida and Joan Miró. The gardens that run alongside the galleries were designed by Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf and feature a mixture of indigenous and Mediterranean plants. 

Hauser & Wirth Menorca opened in July 2021 with Masses and Movements, Mark Bradford's first solo exhibition in Spain, featuring a selection of sculptures and paintings by the American artist.

The space also has an Educational Lab, which aims to involve both the local community and visitors in activities such as talks, workshops and screenings, as well as a restaurant serving local and seasonal products, especially seafood. 

Admission is free and opening hours are Monday to Sunday, 10.00 am to 11.00 pm.
