The centre occupies part of the former military barracks in Es Mercadal and was created with the goal of upholding and promoting the crafts of Menorca.

The Menorcan Craft Centre is a meeting point between the craft world and society. The centre was inaugurated on the 5th December 2005, and is located at the old military barracks in Es Mercadal, just in the centre of the island.

The building, which is over a 100 years old, has been transfered to the Consell Insular (Island's Council) buy the Es Mercadal Town Council and it is catalogued for its important historical value. The space has 200 m2 of exhibition area, plus there is a garden-popular crafts fair and an audiovisual room.

The Centre is willing to be the reference and promotor of menorcan crafts. We are strongly comitted towards professionalization of artisans through concepts like design, mark. image, management, marketing, new technologies and, especially, quality. Additionally, it has become an essential place for visitors wishing to dive into menorcan crafts.

For this purpose, a permanent exhibiton can be visited (also temporary shows are organized), books at the library can be readed, there's a crafts samples garden to be seen, and also a shop where products made by certificated artisans can be purchased.
