Mallorca Sa Pobla Jazz Festival: your appointment with jazz and fine food

The Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla Festival has a long tradition that began in 1995. This five-day festival has a full programme of concerts and parallel activities. This is a unique opportunity for you to sample one of the island’s best culinary traditions while enjoying the best-known jazz artists on the national and international scene.

Created in 1995, Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla was born from the desire to offer a unique experience within Mallorca’s broad cultural programme in the summer. With its international outlook, this festival focuses on both the contemporary jazz scene and the revisiting and reinterpretation of the legacy of past jazz masters.

The concerts take place over five days in early August. The musical programme, headlined by the world’s foremost musicians, is complemented by all kinds of cultural activities and exhibitions. The response and the attendance figures, on the part of both residents and visitors, are extraordinary, and continue to grow with each edition.

The venue chosen for the festival is the beautiful central Plaça Major of Sa Pobla, a town in northwest Mallorca which can be reached by car or public transport, with bus and train services running. As it occupies some of the most fertile farmlands areas of the island, the town has a notable culinary tradition. Take advantage of your visit to the Mallorca Sa Pobla Jazz Festival to dine out at one of the many and varied restaurants in the town. Variat (combining Russian salad, loin and mushrooms) is one of the most typical dishes.

National and international musicians who have performed at the Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla Festival include the following: John Scofield, Pedro Iturralde, Max Sunyer, Ravi Coltrane, Dave Holland, Charlie Haden, Victor Uris, Lucky Peterson, Sheila Jordan, Steve Kuhn, Dave Douglas, Bill Frisell, Eliane Elias and Maria Joao, among others. They have all contributed to the enviable reputation of one of the most established, highest-quality jazz festivals of the Balearics.
