Beaches, a natural setting for everyone to access and enjoy

One of the main attractions of our islands is the miles of coastline where you can enjoy the sea and the sun virtually 365 days a year

Our islands have almost 80 beaches with full or partial access to the sand and the sea. This means that there is accessible parking close to the beach with a walkway leading all the way to the sea or to the lifeguard tower where a lifeguard can help you and where technical assistance such as amphibian crutches or chairs are generally kept.

In Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera we are working to offer not just access but also a service and assistance with bathing:

Only Ibiza in 2017 had at least one accessible beach in each of its municipalities, with a total of 26. The accessibility certification obtained by the beaches of Cala Llonga and Santa Eulària is especially noteworthy. Minorca has the following accessible beaches and coves: Cala Santandria, Cala Degollador (Platja Gran), Cala en Blanes, Son Xoriguer, Cala Galdana, Son Bou, Cala en Porter, Platja de Es Grau, Sant Tomás, Punta Prima, Arenal d’en Castell, Arenal de Son Saura, Cala Tirant and Na Macaret. In Formentera, Es Pujols is an example of an accessible beach, and in Majorca, the city of Palma has 4 beaches (Cala Estancia, Can Pere Antoni, Ciudad Jardín and Playa de Palma) with certification from AENOR (the Spanish standards institute) in assistance for bathing for people with disabilities, as does Cala Bona beach in the north of the island (Cala Millor). Also, the beaches of Alcúdia, El Arenal de Llucmajor, Son Maties and Santa Ponsa, among others, have specific services to assist people with disabilities during the high season months (normally June to October), including assistance with bathing, amphibian chairs and/or crutches, adapted bathing and shaded areas.

Managing accessibility for beaches is the responsibility of the corresponding municipalities and this is a task they perform themselves or do using the services of the Red Cross. If you want more information about a specific beach, at illesbalears.travel we are working to provide as much information as possible on each of the information sheets. However, while the process is being completed, you can consult the information websites of the municipalities where you will find specific information about each of the beaches, assistance phone lines and technical assistance booking.

Relax and enjoy yourself.
