Oratory del Cocó

The Cocó oratory is a small rural chapel located one kilometre away from the town of Lloseta. It was built in 1878 and refurbished and extended in 1978 for its centenary. The image of the titular virgin was transferred to the Lloseta parish church (1974) and replaced by a copy by sculptor Francesc Salvà.

The Cocó oratory is a plain structure, with no ornamentation, where the image of the Cocó Virgin is worshipped, hence the name of the oratory.

Legend has it that a Muslim shepherd found the image within a rock opening next to the Almedrà stream in the 13^th century. According to tradition it has healing powers for those that place their fingers in the hole, hence its name of ‘es Didalet’.

On the first Wednesday of Easter the residents of Lloseta, Binissalem and Inca climb to the Cocó oratory to worship the Virgin. It has been named a Bien de Interés Cultural.
