WHAT ARE THE ARAB BATHS LIKE?

The Arab baths of Palma de Mallorca are located in the gardens of Can Fontirroig, in the historic centre of the city. Inside the building, the central room was intended for hot baths, which will surprise you with its impressive dome and skylights.

The baths date back to the eleventh century, allowing for only the partial conservation of its rooms and architectural elements. According to experts, the preserved remains were possibly part of the palace of a Muslim nobleman.

The entrance to this beautiful Muslim building in Mallorca is through a horseshoe arch. Once inside, the central hall with a square floor plan has been preserved, covered by a hemispherical brick dome with skylights and surrounded by 12 columns with horseshoe arches.

The diversity of styles presented by the capitals of the columns is possibly due to the use of materials and resources from other buildings in the area during its construction.

This room, which was intended for hot baths, has a very curious double floor that, by means of slits purposefully created, allowed hot water and steam to circulate throughout the room.

A rectangular annexed room covered with a barrel vault has also been conserved. Although the cold bath room has been completely lost.
