Tour the La Seu cathedral, the secluded streets of Palma and the Mercat de l'Olivar (Olive Tree Market)
Would you like to explore the highlights of Palma without feeling like a tourist? You've come to the right place! Urban Adventures invites you to discover the main attractions of the old quarter such as the cathedral, city hall, La Lonja and the Royal Palace, but also the quiet corners of the historic centre where you can really feel the true essence of Palma.
You'll find yourself in the city centre in the beautiful building of La Lonja, where merchants used to meet and talk business. It is one of the only examples of civil Gothic architecture in the world. From there you'll walk through the narrow streets of Palma, past the King's Gardens, S'hort del Rei, to reach the impressive cathedral entrance.
The cathedral of Palma, also known as La Seu by the locals, is on top of the old city wall. Incredible, right? You'll visit the outside and the inside, with queue-jump entry to save time. When you get inside, you'll be amazed by the rose windows, the modern art chapel by Miquel Barceló, Gaudí's high altar canopy – even Gaudí came to Majorca! – set against the incredible gothic style of the cathedral.
But there's more to Palma than its cathedral and historic buildings: it has incredible hidden gems, such as the courtyards of the old manor houses. You'll also explore the ancient Jewish quarter and learn a little more about its history.
After exploring these narrow streets, you'll go back down one of the main streets of Palma to the city hall, which has lots of interesting places and some hidden stories that the guide will share with you, such as the hundred-year-old olive tree or the giants hidden inside the building. Finally, you'll visit the bustling Mercat de l'Olivar.
At this local market, you'll discover traditional Majorcan food – some original and delicious ideas for souvenirs. You'll stop for there for a tapa and glass of wine or beer and relax for a moment with your guide and small group, just as the locals do after their shopping. This is a typical appetiser before lunch.
The route ends at the market, but don't worry – your guide will be ready to help you find your way back, and even advise you on a good restaurant for lunch. Don't hesitate to ask them for any advice you need. We want your stay in Majorca and Palma to be memorable!
