A VISIT TO MAHÓN

The natural port of Mahón is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit, as it is the most important port in Menorca and one of the largest natural ports in the world (5 kilometres long). Due to its intense tourist activity, it is full of bars and restaurants where you can taste the delights of Menorcan gastronomy. It is also where Mahón's nightlife is concentrated.

Mahon is a city of great historical wealth, so it is worth visiting the main sights of the capital. First of all, at the mouth of the port itself is the Fortress of La Mola, the main and most important military engineering work in Menorca. The Town Hall, with its emblematic 18th century clock at the top is right in the centre of Mahón, in the Plaza de la Constitución. Then there is the Church of Santa María, with its 19th century organ with four keyboards and 3120 pipes. Following the historical route, we suggest a stop at the Portal de San Roque (Bastion of San Roc) to see the remains of the main gate of the wall that surrounded the city. 

Being the capital city, Mahón is easy to get to.

Menorca has a large shopping centre, the Binipreu, where you can find a large supermarket, pharmacy and clothes and toy shops and typical products from Menorca.

Also, along the island, mainly in Mahón and Ciudadela, we find a great variety of local shops and markets that offer products and crafts originating from the island, such as the famous avarcas menorquinas, a type of footwear that has become the perfect souvenir to take home.
