Hiking in Formentera with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea
The Camí de Sa Pujada is a hidden gem in Formentera, ideal for hiking enthusiasts looking for a challenging and authentic experience. This old path links Es Caló with La Mola and offers a route of about 1 kilometer with spectacular views that you can't miss.
The path, which is quite steep, climbs up the cliffs in this area of the island, which is characterised by its higher elevation and therefore offers a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean. Although the exact date of its construction is not clear, it is related to the presence of the Augustinian monks on the island in the 13th century, as they had the right to access Es Pou des Verro. However, there is only written evidence of its existence from the 18th century onwards, when it was repaired due to its poor condition. Subsequently, in 1993, it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
Green Route 25 follows this historic route, starting in Es Caló, a beautiful fishing village known for its wooden dry docks, which have been recognised as a site of cultural interest since 2002. As you start the climb up the Camí de Sa Pujada, you will find yourself surrounded by landscapes that combine natural beauty with the island's historical legacy. The views from Racó de Sa Pujada and Pou des Verro will take your breath away.
The path reaches the plateau of La Mola, where a plantation of vineyards adds a Mediterranean touch to the route. These vineyards have their roots in the 13th century, when they were donated to the monks who founded the Monastery of Santa María. The route ends at El Pilar de La Mola, the starting point for other hiking routes that will take you all over this magical place on the island.
