14th-century temple
This chapel was erected as a result of the specific wish of King Sancho of Mallorca, around 1323. Its style is that of the religious buildings typical of the colonization period.
The guild of whitewashers and tanners was closely linked to the Chapel of Santa Fe after the year 1420, when on January 20th the guild requested approval of the statutes to govern their professional activities by the Lieutenant Olfo de Pròxida. All the guild’s important ceremonies were held inside this chapel, which is located in the Calatrava district. The whitewashers and tanners guild was one of the most important labour associations of the medieval city until well into the 16th century. The neighbouring guild headquarters still exists, and retains a late Gothic façade with the rampant lions – the emblem of the guild – engraved on the entrance door.
Some opinions consider the chapel to be dedicated to Santa Fe, the martyr of Conques who built up a great many followers throughout the Middle Ages; but another opinion cites the Mystery of Santa Fe as the patron. In the 16th century patronage fell to Sant Cristòfol, who is also worshipped in the chapel. It was restored in 2004.
