Explore the lesser-known archaeological sites of Majorca

Majorca hides an archaeological legacy that goes beyond the most popular sites among its mountains and lush forests. These sites are off the beaten tourist track and, having been little explored, appear semi-hidden in nature, but reveal the intense human activity of past centuries. These forgotten ruins are ideal for those seeking a unique and authentic cultural experience.

An outstanding example is the archaeological site of Almallutx, located in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana. This enclave spans from the Copper Age to the Islamic period, although most of its remains lie under the waters of the Gorg Blau reservoir. Its Talayotic structures, necropolis and Islamic remains reveal the rich history of the area. Access, although somewhat difficult, rewards adventurers with a unique combination of nature, culture and archaeology.

Another essential site is Son Ferrandell - Son Olesa, also in the Serra de Tramuntana, at the foot of Puig de Sa Moneda. Visitors can tour four aligned talayots that were part of an ancient ceremonial centre. This site provides an immersion into the Talayotic culture, with its sanctuaries, living areas and storerooms. The spectacular natural surroundings of Valldemossa add a special charm to the visit.

Finally, the Pula Talayots are located in a unique setting: on a golf course. Two talayots, one tiered and the other circular, enables visitors to go back in time to Majorcan prehistory. Although surrounded by modern facilities, these vestiges are a sample of Majorca's rich prehistoric legacy and also offer impressive views over the Port Vell valley.
