Discover its liquid gold

Explore Minorca through its centuries-old olive groves and taste its olive oil while you immerse yourself in the island's history and culture.

Olive growing in Minorca has deep roots. Although its production is of relative importance on the island, there are archaeological remains that reveal the production of this prized delicacy as far back as the 2nd century BC. Its production has evolved over the years, adapting to the unique conditions of the island and refining the techniques, which today produce an EVOO of different varieties, including wild olive, and since 2024 it has the Oli de Menorca PGI.

Olive oil tourism in Minorca is an invitation to discover an olive oil of extraordinary quality and also an emerging industry, in full bloom and with the capacity to vitalise Minorcan agricultural activity. One of the best ways to immerse yourself in this experience is to explore some of the olive mills that offer guided tours of the olive groves and amazing tastings.

By means of guided tours, you can learn first-hand about the olive growing and harvesting process, discover the different varieties of olive trees and take part in tastings where you can savour the extra virgin olive oil directly from the producer, a real treat for the palate.

Since 2024, Minorcan olive oil has had the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) label, which certifies its quality and origin. This recognition not only highlights the excellence of Minorcan oil, but also supports the local economy and preserves traditional cultivation, harvesting and processing techniques.

The island is currently home to 22 olive oil producers, with a crop that occupies more than 100 hectares, distributed over 45 olive groves and 5 oil mills.

One of the olive oil mills that offers guided tours is Pont Modorro. In addition to producing an exquisite extra virgin olive oil, Pont Modorro also markets oil made from acebuchina, the fruit of the acebuche or ullastre, a type of wild olive tree that is very abundant on the island. Olive oil is very difficult to produce but very much appreciated by the most demanding palates. At this estate, you can not only learn about the production process, but also enjoy tastings and learn about the history of a family that has been devoted, over generations, to perfecting the art of producing olive oil.

Another essential stop is Sant Joan de Binissaida, where you can take a guided tour to learn about the production of its extra virgin olive oil. Here, in an idyllic setting, you will discover the secrets of artisan olive oil production and you will be able to taste its different varieties, feeling the care put into each bottle with every sip.

Exploring olive oil tourism in Minorca is a way to connect with the island's gastronomic landscape. By means of guided tours, you can discover exceptional oils and enjoy one of the star ingredients of Mediterranean culture. Get ready to enjoy a sensory journey that will make you appreciate Minorcan gastronomy even more!
