Mohamed Seroukh can be sure that his dreams are coming true, albeit slowly. That dream was to have his own farm, with animals and natural produce. He’s given it a name that’s easy to remember and pronounce: Hort d’en Mou, where the hens can lay their eggs in freedom and fruit trees abound.

As a youngster Mohamed Seroukh had a dream: to set up a farm and grow natural produce. His dream has come true, and since 2019 he’s been running Hort d’en Mou, in Sencelles (Mallorca).

Hort d’en Mou is on the main road between Sencelles and Costitx. The farm has around 1.8 acres, and is full of seasonal fruit trees. Mohamed describes it very simply, his voice full of feeling: “It’s pretty.”

For the moment, at Hort d’en Mou, Mohamed grows fruit and seasonal vegetables, and raises hens for their eggs. For Mohamed what matters most is that his produce is organic, i.e. free from additives, or as he likes to call them: “natural products”. The hens roam freely as they please, a farming style that is particularly important to Mohamed, aware as he is that the quality of the eggs that we consume is so dependent on a healthy lifestyle for the hens.

Mohamed has been involved in farming from a very young age. For the past few years he has been working on a private farm while saving up enough to have land and a small farm of his own. His goal is to provide a good selection of products, and his project includes helping to educate youngsters so they can learn how the food they eat is grown and produced, and the important role that this plays in staying healthy. Isn’t the Mediterranean diet part of our World Heritage status? Fruit and vegetables are its foundation.
